Workshop Overview

Rapid developments in information and communication technology (ICT) continue to change the way we work, communicate, and spend our leisure time. Future living environments will benefit greatly from the development of adaptive algorithms and systems that offer secure and transparent smart services. With communication, we denote the communication between technical systems as well as the communication between information and communication technology (ICT) and residents in private living quarters. To meet the challenges inherent in this research area, various disciplines of computer science are required, ranging from embedded systems, telecommunication, computational theory, cryptography, computer graphics and computer vision to artificial intelligence.

The SENSYBLE workshop 2017 will bring together researchers and practitioners from various disciplines of computer science who work in the area of enhancing private living environments with information and communication technologies. It is organized by the SENSYBLE doctoral college, a joint research initiative by the Computer Science and Mathematics department of the Goethe-University / Frankfurt am Main and the department of Design, Computer Science, Media (DCSM) of the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences / Wiesbaden. The workshop is a follow-up to previous workshops from the same organizers. We encourage submissions on (but not limited to) the following topics relating to smart systems for better living environments:

  • Self-X properties (self-organization, self-configuration, self-optimization, self-healing, self-protection, self-integration)
  • Cryptography for authenticity, integrity and anonymity
  • Secure embedded systems
  • Multi-modal data analytics
  • Multisensor and evolutionary user interfaces and embodied interaction
  • Visualization and usability aspects of self-organizing systems
  • Internet of Things and Middleware for context-sensitive, adaptive services
  • Engineering of distributed smart systems
  • Software engineering and business aspects of smart system development
  • Applications, e.g. intelligent assistive systems for health care

Submissions that focus on a holistic view and vertical integration aspects of smart systems for better living environments are particularly welcome.

Call for Contributions

We kindly invite workshop contributions in a two-stage process: First, one-page abstracts (in PDF) of up to 3,000 characters must be submitted. These will be reviewed and selected by our program committee, and selected submissions will be presented in the workshop at INFORMATIK 2017 (www.informatik2017.de). All presenters will also be invited to submit a final paper for the workshop proceedings of INFORMATIK 2017. Final papers will again be peer reviewed by the program committee before they are accepted for publication.

The workshop itself will follow a highly interactive format. For selected presentations ample time for discussion among all participants will be reserved. There will also be a final panel discussion on research topics, research challenges and a possible research roadmap in this area.

Important Dates

  • March 20: Submission Deadline (one-page abstract)
  • March 31: Notification of acceptance (one-page abstract)
  • April 30: Submission deadline (final paper)
  • May 15 : Notification of acceptance (final paper)
  • June 16: Camera-ready submission (final paper)
  • Sep 29: Workshop Date

Formatting & Page Limit

  • Your one-page abstract should come in PDF format, be in English, not exceed 3,000 characters, and include all authors, their affiliations, and contact information (there is no template).
  • Full papers should be limited to 8 pages and follow the GI author guidelines (sorry, German only). Again, do include all authors, affiliation, and contact information.

Submission Instructions

For submissions, please use the INFORMATIK 2017 ConfTool under https://www.conftool.pro/informatik2017/.

  • When submitting, pick „WS11 – SENSYBLE Smart Systems for Better Living Environments“
  • Under „Einreichungsformate“, pick „Abstract“ (for the one-page abstract) or „Full Paper“ (for your final paper)
  • After submission, you will still be able to update your submission’s PDF and meta-data.
